I know I've babbled to a few of you already about these guys, and here they finally are! This is my first real try at semi-realism sculpting, and these are my first 3 maquette figurines, and more are in planning! ^^
(Maquettes are basically cartoon statues that animators use for reference... ^^ I know Disney used some at times, but I'm not sure about anime studios...)
All 3 are styled like the official PlayArts FMA figurines of Ed, Al, and Winry (THANKS ASHLEY-CHAN!! ^_^ I've still got Ed standing on my bedroom shelf! ), meaning that they each have interchangable heads for different facial expressions and/or interchangable arms/accessories! ^^ However, they are larger in scale to the PlayArts ones, and mine come on nice finished wood bases... Both Greed and Dorochet have "real hair", too! ^^ (Same stuff I used on bobble-Kimbley)
Greed-
Obviously my favorite one of the trio (character-related bias excluded), I think his turned out the most fun! His details were definitely the most fun (his "shielded" arm has tiny claws!! XD They feel so....prickly. X3) and he even has copper-colored highlights on his hair! His sunglasses and his vest, complete with extra-fuzzy trim, are both easily removable. ^_^
I styled his secondary pose like meh treasured Envy/Greed/Sloth genga set --I can hear DAS loading a rifle already XD-- so it's based off a nice pose that most FMA fans recognize! ^_^ (...And let's not go into how much that genga set cost me, thank you. =w=;; )
He DOES have a second facial expression, but I was experimenting with casting heads, and I'm not really happy with how it turned out... I'll play with it a little more to get it right...
And just for fun, I included scale photos-- One showing how nightmarishly tiny his sunglasses are, and one just for the pure cuteness factor to show how much taller he is than his giggle-worthy bobblehead counterpart.
Dorochet-
I dunno. I love the guy. ^_^
His pose was based off a doujinshi cover design (A doujin appropriately titled "Devil's Nest". Whoo, creative. 9_9;; ), which I included his part of the image as a fancel of in the fullview pic. (The whole fancel is posted here, if you're curious). He even has 2-toned blue eyes, 2-colored hair --dark brown with that greenish-brown-toned area in the middle-- and little 24K gold leaf accents on his sword hilt & sheath! XD
Dorochet comes with 2 facial expressions-- one cute one of him grinning like on the cover, and one like his usual "Oh crap." expression that he's usually seen with in the anime. Poor guy.
I am currently considering different arm poses, so those might be uploaded later! ^^ I'll probably make a tiny unsheathed sword for him to hold with the second pose...
Bido-
I have no idea what possessed me to sculpt this guy again so soon (His was one of the bobbleheads I made back in November to give to his voice actor, Greg Ayres, at Nekocon ^_^), but I just thought, "Y'know, he's just a fun character, so why not? He's easy to draw, this'll be a piece of cake!" XD
...
I was wrong. x.x;; He was more agonizing than either Greed OR Dorochet. *dies*
...
And I ended up with a nice slice in my thumb while working on his cloak. =w=;; (See photos.) However, ~ashleighvestia pointed out to me the irony of Equivalent Exchange to me in that I traded my blood for quality. And even more irony? He really did turn out to be the most accurate, design-wise, of all 3. *freeeeeeakyyyyy*
Bido comes with 2 facial expressions, and 2 different cloak-hoods! ^^ And before I attached him to his base, I decided to have some photography fun and get a photo of all 3 of them sitting in front of my stereo speaker, there -- but I stuck the wires in Bido's feet through the holes in the speaker so it looked like he was climbing on it.
